GLOSTER, Miss. — Amite County 2029 running back Kemari Thompson is coming off an 803-yard, nine-touchdown season and believes he is ready for an even bigger year.
The 5-foot-7, 190-pound back spent the offseason focused on becoming a more complete player, especially with his strength, speed and understanding of the game.
“My overall strength, speed, and football IQ improved the most,” Thompson said. “I’ve been working hard on becoming a more complete player, especially improving my vision as a running back, making better reads, and being able to make plays on both sides of the ball.”
Thompson wants to improve on last season’s production while also becoming a stronger leader for Amite County.
“My biggest goal is to have a better season than I did last year and continue improving every game,” he said. “I want to increase my rushing yards and touchdowns, become a better leader, help my team win, and earn more recognition while continuing to build relationships with college coaches.”
His recruitment is still developing, and Thompson is focused on improving his game, academics and exposure through camps while continuing to build relationships with college programs.
“I’m continuing to build my recruitment and communicate with college programs,” Thompson said. “Right now, I’m focused on developing my game, getting better academically, attending camps, and continuing to earn opportunities from college coaches.”
Thompson also understands what Amite County will need to do collectively to have a successful season.
“We have to stay together, trust each other, and stay disciplined,” he said. “If we stay focused, play physical, and keep the right mindset, I believe we can have a successful season.”
For Thompson, football is about more than stats and recruiting attention.
“I love the competition and the feeling of making a big play for my team,” he said. “Football has taught me discipline, toughness, teamwork, and how to keep pushing even when things get hard. Most importantly, I love being able to compete with my teammates and represent Amite County every Friday night.”
Thompson already has production on his résumé. If he builds on last season’s 803 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, expect more college programs to start taking a closer look at the Amite County standout.
