Nobles says UWF must start faster

UWF head coach Kaleb Nobles said the Argonauts need to find a faster start after their 16-13 loss to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

“We started off slow. Inexcusable. That’s on me,” Nobles said. “I got to do something different to get these guys woken up and get going fast. We didn’t do enough in all three phases.”

The Argos fell behind 10-0 before rallying to tie the game at halftime. Reid Grek’s field goal gave UWF a 13-10 lead early in the third quarter, but the offense couldn’t add to it.

UWF finished with 225 yards, including 88 on the ground, and converted four of 14 third-down attempts. Two second-half fumbles gave EKU chances to even the score and take the lead. The Colonels’ go-ahead field goal came with 9:01 remaining.

The defense kept UWF within reach, allowing 261 yards and recording four sacks. But after EKU’s winning kick, the Colonels held the ball for the final 4:53 and ran out the clock.

UWF has a bye week before returning to action Nov. 7 at North Alabama.
