The UWF senior has 13 tackles for loss and six sacks heading into Saturday’s matchup.
Byron Puryear has become a disruptive force for West Florida. The senior defensive lineman is coming off a strong performance in the Argos’ 37–3 win over West Alabama, where he made seven tackles, recorded five tackles for loss and added 1.5 sacks.
Eastern Kentucky will need to account for Puryear while also getting its run game going. Freshman running back Ryder Hooks rushed for 166 yards and a touchdown in the Colonels’ last game. That makes the battle up front an important one for UWF.
Puryear can help swing that matchup by stopping plays before they develop. If he gets into the backfield and puts EKU behind schedule, the Argos can force the Colonels into passing situations and give their defense a chance to control the game.
