PENSACOLA, Fla. — West Florida’s defense held West Alabama to just 29 total yards, and the Argos piled up 528 yards of offense in a 37–3 Homecoming victory Saturday at PenAir Field.
Ty’Ray Davis set the tone with an 8-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. After a Reid Grek field goal, Dylan Lloyd recovered a fumble in the end zone for another score. Davis added a 3-yard touchdown run late in the first half, giving UWF a 23–0 lead at the break.
The Argos continued to build their advantage after halftime. Davis threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tyshon Mansell in the third quarter, and Donovan Leary connected with Tyler Dostin for a 4-yard score in the fourth. West Alabama’s only points came on a 43-yard field goal. The Tigers finished with six first downs.
Davis completed 10 of 16 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 126 yards and two scores. Markel Townsend added 104 rushing yards, helping UWF finish with 329 yards on the ground. Leary completed seven of 11 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.
The win moved UWF to 4–2 and provided a strong response after its loss at Abilene Christian and the cancellation of the Northeastern State game. The Argos also have areas to clean up: they committed 10 penalties for 103 yards and turned the ball over twice. Next, UWF travels to face Eastern Kentucky on October 24.
