After two weeks away from game action, UWF gets back on the field Saturday with a difficult matchup waiting. The Argos host No. 21 West Alabama for Homecoming, with kickoff moved to 1 p.m. as campus recovery from Hurricane Isaias continues.
UWF last played on Oct. 3, falling 35-7 at Abilene Christian. The Argos struggled to sustain drives and contain the run, leaving them plenty to address during the extended break. Quarterback Ty’Ray Davis threw for 208 yards, while Markel Townsend ran for 98 yards on 12 carries.
West Alabama arrives with a 5-1 record and momentum from a 29-26 win over Chowan. The Tigers have handled several close games this season, so UWF will need to finish drives, protect the football and make key stops when the game is on the line.
The Argos beat West Alabama 23-16 last season, but Saturday’s matchup brings a different challenge during UWF’s first FCS season. The programs have split their past 10 meetings, adding another chapter to a competitive rivalry.
UWF’s priorities are clear: slow down the run, create more consistency on offense and avoid the costly mistakes that hurt against Abilene Christian. The extended break offered time to regroup, but the Argos will have to show their progress against a veteran opponent.
The Homecoming game will be played at PenAir Field, though hurricane recovery has changed the usual game-day setup. Gates open at noon for online ticket holders and season ticket holders. Walk-up ticket sales, tailgating and other pregame activities will not be available.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m. The game will stream on ESPN+ and air on SportsRadio Pensacola.
