After two weeks away from the field, UWF needs its offense to find a rhythm against West Alabama. The Argos’ last game was a 35–7 loss at Abilene Christian on Oct. 3. Their scheduled Oct. 10 home game against Northeastern State was canceled because of Hurricane Isaias.
UWF has had extra time to regroup, but it must avoid the mistakes that stalled the offense in its last outing. The Argos converted just three of 14 third downs. On their opening drive, Markel Townsend broke a 51-yard run, but penalties and a failed fourth-down attempt kept UWF from scoring.
West Alabama has allowed 20 points per game through its first six games, so UWF will need to sustain drives and take advantage of scoring chances. The Argos have shown they can make explosive plays; the next step is pairing them with cleaner execution on early downs.
UWF enters the matchup 3–2 and returns to PenAir Field for the first time since Sept. 19. West Alabama is 5–1 and comes in after a 29–26 win over Chowan on Oct. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
UWF has a chance to reset at home. The Argos need to turn their early opportunities into points and show they can finish drives against a defense that has been limiting opponents.
