Abilene Christian is 1-4.
West Florida is 3-1 and ranked No. 17 in the country.
But Saturday night, the Argos will walk into a place where UAC teams haven’t been able to win since 2023.
That’s what makes this one interesting.
ACU has won eight straight UAC home games, going 4-0 at home in conference play in each of the last two seasons.
So forget the 1-4 record for a minute.
This is still the two-time defending UAC champion, playing at home in a place where conference opponents haven’t had much success.
ACU showed last week that it can cause problems, jumping out to a 17-7 lead over Mercer before turnovers changed the game.
That’s also where UWF could have an advantage.
The Argos’ defense forced six turnovers in its 20-17 win over Southeast Missouri State. Creating extra possessions has become one of the biggest strengths of this UWF team.
If ACU gives the football away again, the Argos have shown they can make teams pay.
Now Comes a Different Road Test
UWF has already won twice away from home.
The Argos went to Central Arkansas and won 42-14. Then they found a way to grind out a 20-17 victory at Southeast Missouri State.
Abilene presents something different.
Four games into this FCS move, UWF already looks comfortable at this level.
The Argos have beaten ranked competition, won on the road and found different ways to finish games. Now they’re walking into the home of the two-time defending conference champions.
It’s another measuring stick for a program trying to establish itself immediately in the UAC.
And this one comes with a streak attached.
ACU is 1-4. UWF is No. 17. But none of that changes what has happened inside Wildcat Stadium in conference play.
Eight straight UAC opponents have gone in. Eight straight have left without a win.
Saturday night, UWF gets its chance to end the streak.
