UWF extends closure again — but recovery is moving forward

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The University of West Florida isn’t ready to reopen just yet, but there is encouraging news as the campus continues recovering from Hurricane Isaias.

UWF has extended its closure through Thursday, October 15, giving crews additional time to finish cleanup and prepare the campus for students and employees.

And while the closure continues, the university appears to be making progress toward reopening.

Recovery Moving Forward

Power has reportedly been restored to most of campus, and inspections have found no structural damage to university buildings and residence halls.

Meanwhile, crews continue removing fallen trees and debris from roads, parking areas and walkways.

That’s encouraging news for UWF, which has been working to restore normal operations while keeping campus safety the priority.

University President Manny Diaz Jr. has indicated that reopening could happen gradually, with residential students and employees returning before regular classes resume.

What It Means for UWF Football

For Argonaut fans, Saturday’s football game remains one of the biggest questions.

UWF is still hoping to play, but that decision depends on whether the campus can reopen safely.

Even if the game moves forward, tailgating and Homecoming activities are not expected to take place.

Meanwhile, the extended closure continues to affect the football program’s preparation and regular activities.

What’s Next

UWF is expected to provide another update Wednesday afternoon, which could bring more clarity about reopening and the status of Saturday’s game.

For now, the extended closure is another setback, but the recovery progress offers some encouraging signs.

The Argonauts aren’t back to normal yet, but they’re getting closer.
