Markel Townsend keeps getting limited touches. He keeps turning them into yards.
Townsend carried the ball 12 times for 98 yards against Abilene Christian, averaging 8.2 yards per carry. He had 92 of those yards in the first half, including a 51-yard run on UWF’s opening possession.
Simply put, Townsend gave UWF some juice.
And this wasn’t a one-game flash. Against Austin Peay, Townsend rushed for 93 yards on only nine carries. Between those two games, he has 191 yards on 21 attempts — an impressive 9.1 yards per carry.
That kind of production deserves attention.
With Ty’Ray Davis back at quarterback, another explosive option in the backfield could make things easier on the entire offense. Townsend has shown he can create big plays without needing a ton of touches.
Now it’s about finding ways to get him involved more consistently.
Townsend keeps producing when UWF gives him the ball. At this point, he’s earned the chance to see what happens with a few more touches.
