Behind Enemy Lines: Find no. 3 before the snap

ACU safety Dillon Williams (No. 3) brings experience, physicality and a nose for the football into Saturday’s matchup with No. 17 UWF.

Before UWF’s quarterback worries about the pass rush or checks the coverage Saturday, he needs to find one guy.

No. 3 Dillon Williams.

The 6-foot, 215-pound Abilene Christian safety transferred from Central Arkansas after leading UCA with 83 tackles in 2025.

That number tells you plenty.

Williams likes being around the football. He’s physical enough to come downhill against the run, but experienced enough to make plays on the back end.

He’s the kind of defender who can turn a five-yard run into a two-yard gain — or a bad throw into a turnover.

Why Williams Matters

UWF wants to stay balanced offensively.

That’s where Williams comes into the picture.

If the Argos start running the football successfully, ACU can bring Williams closer to the box and give itself another defender against the run.

UWF can’t let him do that without making him pay for it.

Show run. Get Williams looking into the backfield. Then use play-action and attack the space behind him.

If Williams stays deep, keep running it.

Make him choose.

UWF wants No. 3 thinking instead of simply seeing the football and attacking.

Whoever takes the snaps for the Argos will also have to respect Williams’ experience. He’s played enough college football to recognize formations, routes and what quarterbacks are trying to do with their eyes.

Don’t Give Him One

This might be the biggest thing.

Don’t give Williams a gift.

No late throws across the middle. Don’t stare down a receiver. Don’t force something on second-and-7 that turns into an interception.

Make ACU earn its stops.

UWF has already shown it can win games without needing everything to be perfect offensively. Running the football, staying ahead of the chains and avoiding turnovers can travel.

That’s especially important in another road game.

The Bottom Line

For UWF, the plan is pretty simple.

Stay balanced.

Use play-action when Williams starts coming downhill.

Protect the football.

And don’t let ACU’s veteran safety become the guy who changes the game.

Before every snap, there’s one more thing to remember.

Find No. 3. Every snap.
